MBZUAI celebrates ‘Year of the 50th’ – National Day 2021

More than 150 MBZUAI students, staff and faculty gathered on campus for Emirati music and food to celebrate the UAE’s 50th Anniversary – the Golden Jubilee – last Thursday. The outdoor celebration included an address from MBZUAI leadership and a cake to mark the occasion. The ‘Year of the 50th’ celebrates the UAE’s remarkable achievements during the past 50 years and focusses the national agenda on planning for the next 50 years.

MBZUAI will play a vital role in materializing the UAE leadership’s vision by training the future leaders of the advanced technology industry while also facilitating the fourth industrial revolution in unleashing the potential of artificial intelligence (AI). “The UAE has come a long way in such a short period and it is sure to continue to progress at an accelerating rate under such forward thinking leadership,” Professor Eric Xing, President of MBZUAI, said. “MBZUAI is a small but quintessential example of the UAE leadership’s vision. We are the manifestation of the UAE’s commitment to transforming the nation into a knowledge hub, a thriving AI ecosystem.”

Amna Al Mansouri, director of HR at MBZUAI and a proud Emirati citizen, shares her personal reflections. “The National Day celebrations are always the most anticipated time of the year to remember the historic relevance of the occasion and honor those whew re the masterminds behind forming the UAE, making the Golden Jubilee a long-awaited occasion,” Al Mansouri said.

“I’m emotional as I reflect over my life, and how I’ve watched the UAE transform from sand dunes into a modern country, how we transitioned from an oil economy to a regional AI leader. The long-term initiatives and visionary policies of our leadership has transformed the UAE and empowered citizens and residents to live fulfilling and prosperous lives.”
