If you’d done a Google News search for “autonomous planes” in late November, one of the first results to come up would have been this: “Ethiopian Airlines to Employ Ray, an Autonomous Aircraft Sanitization Robot.” So, no, we are not there yet. To some degree, we already have self-flying planes, but even the most advanced autopilot requires input from its flesh-and-blood counterparts, who are also called on to handle contingencies.
