What is the NextGen Summer Program?

The NextGen Summer Program is designed for high-potential Grade 9-10 students across the UAE to explore the foundations of artificial intelligence and gain an early introduction to MBZUAI's academic environment. Delivered by MBZUAI alumni and graduate students, the programme combines hands-on learning, real-world challenges, and direct exposure to AI as a field.

Hands-on AI learning

Applied workshops built around real problems - data, machine learning, and AI ethics in practice.

Alumni and graduate facilitation

Facilitated by MBZUAI alumni and graduate students - relatable role models close in age to participants.

MBZUAI campus experience

An immersive on-campus experience at a top-ranked global AI university - labs, spaces, and community.

Real-world challenges

Apply AI thinking to genuine challenges across sectors - health, mobility, environment, and governance.

Program outcomes

What will you gain?

By the end of the 10 days, participants leave with practical skills, new perspectives, and a clear sense of what AI - and MBZUAI - is about.

AI foundations

Understand core AI concepts and how they shape real-world applications - from data and machine learning to ethics.

Practical coding skills

Write foundational Python code, work with real datasets, and build a basic machine learning model from scratch.

Critical and ethical thinking

Apply structured problem-solving and examine the ethical implications of AI systems in a UAE context.

Communication and presentation

Present ideas, findings, and project outcomes clearly and confidently to peers and an expert audience.

Who should apply?

Selection is competitive and application-based. We look for curiosity, motivation, and evidence of engagement beyond the classroom.

Eligibility - Summer 2026

UAE National or resident of the UAE currently in Grade 9-10 (2025-26 academic year)
Strong academic record and genuine interest in technology, mathematics, science, or AI
Participation in extracurricular activities such as hackathons, competitions, or STEM clubs
Aspiring to study AI, computer science, engineering, or a related field at university
