Research interests

Professor Ghedira has more than 20 years of experience leading and managing large-scale and multilateral research and innovation projects in the UAE. His work spans fields of technologies including space, clean energy, water resources, climate, environment, artificial intelligence, and more. He has a successful track-record in developing large-scale sponsored research programs with government, semi-government, and private entities in the UAE and the GCC, attracting more than $20m of external funding from 2012 to 2020.

Prior to joining MBZUAI, Professor Ghedira served as a Director of the Research Centre for Renewable Energy Mapping and Assessment at Masdar Institute from 2010 to 2020. He spent six years at the City University of New York as Assistant Professor and Research Associate Professor. Professor Ghedira was the founding Director of the Environmental Remote Sensing and Image Processing Laboratory at the NOAA Cooperative Remote Sensing Science & Technology Center (NOAA-CREST) in New York. Professor Ghedira was most recently the Director of Research Engagement at MBZUAI. He received his MSc degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Sherbrooke, Canada, in 1997, and his Ph.D. in Water Sciences from the University of Quebec, Canada, in 2001.

Ghedira has authored and co-authored more than 140 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and referred conference proceedings in the field of earth observation, renewable energy mapping, environmental monitoring, spatial data analysis, atmospheric and climate modeling.
