Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has joined UNICON – a global network of leading universities and institutions focused on executive education.
Its membership places the University – and its executive education arm, The Academy – among an established group of international peers, strengthening its position in the fast-growing market for professional and leadership development.
Founded more than 50 years ago, UNICON brings together more than 120 business schools and providers worldwide. Among its number are some of the most highly-ranked universities in North America, Europe, and Asia, including CMU, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, Harvard, Tsinghua University, LBS, and many more.
Its members collaborate on research, share best practices, and co-develop programs designed to meet the evolving needs of business leaders, governments, and organizations. Membership is selective, with institutions typically required to demonstrate both academic quality and impact in executive learning.
By joining UNICON, MBZUAI is reiterating its commitment to providing applied learning for professionals. Alongside its reputation for advanced research and leading undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, the University’s executive education – delivered by The Academy – is becoming an increasingly important part of its offering.
“UNICON membership is both an honor and a responsibility,” said Spring Fu, Managing Director of The Academy. “To stand alongside the world’s most respected executive education providers affirms the rigor of what we have built at The Academy in just a few short years.
“But it is also an opportunity to contribute. As part of the world’s first AI-focused graduate University, we bring a distinctive perspective to executive education at a moment when leaders everywhere are grappling with how AI will reshape their organizations.
“We look forward to learning from our new peers, sharing our expertise, and advancing the global conversation on what leadership in the AI era demands.”
The Academy was created to help organizations, leaders, and policymakers understand and respond to the rapid rise of AI. Its executive programs combine technical insight with practical application, offering leadership courses, executive briefings, customized organizational training, and international modules designed around real-world AI adoption and transformation.
Inspired by the spirit of Plato’s Academy, it provides a space for open enquiry, experimentation, and diverse perspectives, extending MBZUAI’s mission beyond the classroom and laboratory. As such, The Academy brings together scientists, technologists, artists, business leaders, and policymakers to explore how AI is reshaping decision-making, institutions, culture, and society. Through fellowships, events, and cross-disciplinary discussions, it connects frontier AI research with broader social and strategic questions.
Joining UNICON aligns with these aspirations and enhances The Academy’s mission – especially at a time when demand for AI-related executive education is rising sharply. Organizations across sectors are seeking to upskill their workforce and leadership teams in both technical capability, and in understanding the strategic implications of AI.
Already working with institutions and leadership teams across the UAE, UNICON helps The Academy benchmark its programs against international peers, while also opening the door to potential partnerships – allowing it to expand its offerings and broaden its impact.
