MBZUAI in top 20 globally in AI, CV, ML, and NLP

MBZUAI currently ranks 19 globally in its areas of specialization – AI, computer vision (CV), machine learning (ML), and natural language processing (NLP) – according to CSRankings. The university is now top ranked for computer science in the MENA region. The updated rankings place MBZUAI alongside institutions such as MIT, the University of California, Berkeley, ETH Zurich, Nanjing University, and the University of Washington.

CSRankings (computer science rankings) is “designed to identify institutions and faculty actively engaged in research across a number of areas of computer science, based on the number of publications by faculty that have appeared at the most selective conferences in each area of computer science,” according to the organization’s website.

MBZUAI faculty grew significantly in 2022 and the first quarter of 2023, with the addition of more than 20 new members, and now stands at 52. In total, the faculty has grown by more than 80% since 2021, and more importantly, the caliber of faculty has increased as fully half of faculty at MBZUAI hail from top 100 AI institutions.

“In just three years since our launch MBZUAI has earned a strong reputation for scientific research, innovation, learning, and collaboration,” MBZUAI President and University Professor Eric Xing said. “Our dedication to AI means that faculty and students are able to achieve the level of focus required to really push boundaries in our core subject areas, as has been recognized by the latest CSRankings. We look forward to building on these results throughout the rest of 2023 and into 2024, helping position Abu Dhabi and the UAE as a hub for AI.”

MBZUAI attracts world-class researchers in AI, CS, data sciences, and related disciplines such as healthcare, sustainability, education, engineering, and social sciences. MBZUAI is a graduate research university dedicated to advancing AI as a global force for humanity.
