A delegation from the Australia UAE Business Council visited MBZUAI on Australia Day to discuss potential artificial intelligence (AI) collaborations to benefit both nations.
MBZUAI’s Sultan Al Hajji, Vice President for Public Affairs and Alumni Relations, and Ian Mathews, Vice President of Corporate Services, welcomed council members led by H.E. Abdulla Ali Alsubousi, UAE Ambassador to Australia and Executive Director Kacey Lam as well as representatives from Australian businesses, universities and Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Following a tour of MBZUAI’s campus and facilities, the two sides discussed the importance of collaboration in unlocking and exploring AI opportunities.
“Our organizations are aligned on the importance of connecting academia with industry while creating long lasting and mutually rewarding relationships,” Al Hajji said. “Together, Australia and the UAE are looking forward to what digital technology can achieve in both the short and longer term. Today’s meeting was a success, and we believe there will be many exciting opportunities to work together.”
The Australia UAE Business Council recently launched its Artificial Intelligence Technologies Working Group to investigate the availability and maturity of AI technology enablers across Australia and the UAE. The council also has a Renewable and Alternative Energies Working Group.
“The rise of AI technologies provide opportunities for Australian and Emirati companies to collaborate across the AI and digital technologies sector,” Australia UAE Business Council Co-chair and former Defense Minister for Australia, the Hon. Christopher Pyne said.
“Recently the Australia UAE Business Council established our AI Technologies Working Group to facilitate Australian and Emirati businesses to formally connect and analyze potential opportunities across the two countries. As part of our delegation to the UAE, visiting Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence was a high priority for our members.”
