MBZUAI delegation explores partnerships with L’X and IP Paris

The president of Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), Professor Eric Xing, and his delegation, met with the president of École Polytechnique (L’X) and Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP), Eric Labaye. The two leaders discussed a wide range of research initiatives in artificial intelligence at L’X and IP Paris, as well as at MBZUAI in the United Arab Emirates.

The MBZUAI delegation went to France to explore research initiatives. One such opportunity might be with École Polytechnique Professor and Co-Scientific Director at Hi! Paris, Eric Moulines, who heads up the interdisciplinary center in AI and Data Science at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. They also went to learn more about the French AI ecosystem including public and commercial development projects and opportunities. The meetings highlighted a number of key areas for potential collaboration and innovation into the future.

L’X was established in 1794 and is considered the top engineering school in France. IP Paris ranks in the top 30 worldwide in the physical sciences; in the top 50 worldwide in computer science; and in the top 100 worldwide in the life sciences. ENS, also a top research university in France, boasts 14 Nobel Prize winners and 11 Fields Medalists as well as 30 CNRS Gold Medal recipients.

A report on Artificial Intelligence, developed for Expo 2020 by L’X and IP President Eric Labaye, highlights the challenges of AI. The report also outlines French strengths in the area, as well as the important contributions of IP Paris and HEC Paris to the launch of Hi! Paris—an interdisciplinary center dedicated to AI and data science.

The MBZUAI, L’X, and IP teams all took part with the goal of fostering partnerships between these global universities and strengthening links with private industry, while maintaining elite levels of excellence in research, innovation and academic programs.
