In collaboration with IBM, MBZUAI faculty are developing AI foundation models capable of measuring, monitoring, and visualising the effects of climate change on our overheating cities.

A complex phenomenon known as the Urban Heat Island Effect is caused when inner city surfaces such as concrete and asphalt absorb and release solar radiation. Making cities hotter, more energy-demanding, and often deadlier for vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens.

Our vision is to be able to provide city managers and governments with the data-driven evidence they need from AI to implement strategies to reduce the temperatures of urban surfaces providing a real-time solution to a real-world issue.
