Yulia Medvedeva - MBZUAI MBZUAI

Yulia Medvedeva

Assistant Professor of Computational Biology

Research Interests

Professor Medvedeva's research seeks to decode the complexities of life one cell at a time, harnessing the power of bulk and single-cell omics technologies for precision medicine. She focuses on single-cell RNA sequencing and ATAC sequencing to investigate dynamic gene activity and regulatory landscapes, while also studying long non-coding RNAs as key regulators of gene expression, splicing, and epigenetic memory. Professor Medvedeva's research integrates high-resolution omics datasets with genetic and phenotypic information to uncover molecular roots of diseases like type 2 diabetes, with a global perspective on biological variation, ancestry, and human health. Prior to joining MBZUAI, Professor Medvedova divided her time between leading two research groups: one in medical bioinformatics and omics technologies at the Endocrinology Research Center, and another in regulatory transcriptomics and epigenomics at the Research Center of Biotechnology, Russian Academy of Sciences. She also served as Head of the Laboratory of Bioinformatics for Cell Technologies and lectured at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT).
