Saravanan Thirumuruganathan

Associate Professor of Practice

Research Interests

Professor Thirumuruganathan's research program tries to cross pollinate ideas between data management and machine/deep learning. He is interested in revisiting fundamental challenges in data management through the lens of machine learning and how techniques from databases can be used to accelerate machine learning primitives. He has significant expertise in applying machine learning in a wide variety of fields such as cyber security, knowledge graphs, data integration, fairness, and social networks.

Prior to joining MBZUAI, Professor Thirumuruganathan co-founded a startup and served as a Visiting Professor at IIT Palakkad. Before that, he was a Scientist at the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), where he conducted applied research at the intersection of databases and machine learning.
Professor Thirumuruganathan has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and actively contributes to the research community as a Program Committee member for leading conferences in databases and machine learning. His work spans a broad range of topics, including data management, data quality, and scalable learning systems.
