Research Interests

Professor Khan's research interest is in advancing the efficiency, scalability, and controllability of small language models (SLMs), with a particular focus on resource-constrained environments and domain-specific applications. He is also engaged in alignment strategies that enhance the adaptability, fairness, and robustness of generative models in real-world settings. He focuses on AI agents and concepts of trust and reliability within next-generation intelligent systems.

Professor Khan is a technologist and researcher with over 15 years of working with global tech industries, specializing in the application of artificial intelligence across critical domains such as digital health, smart manufacturing, intelligent mobility, and sustainable infrastructure. His work centers on transforming research into practice converting innovative ideas into scalable, real-world solutions that address pressing technological and societal challenges.

Prior to joining MBZUAI, Professor Khan has held senior leadership roles in global organizations
where he directed multidisciplinary teams, building strong partnerships with industry leaders, government agencies, and academic institutions. He has successfully driven innovation from concept to deployment, ensuring that advanced AI solutions are not only technically robust but also practical, sustainable, and impactful.
