Assistant Professor of Statistics and Data Science, and Computer Science

Research Interests

Professor Kang's research aims to model and understand the interconnected world, primarily with graphs. It mainly investigates the following questions in three big themes:

  • Data: Where do the data come from? What is the optimal data for a learning task?
  • Model: Can we trust the model outputs?
  • Task: How to let a learning model solve complicated real-world tasks?

Prior to joining MBZUAI, Professor Kang received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and was recognized as a Rising Star in Data Science by The University of Chicago and Mavis Future Faculty Fellow by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Professor Kang serves as OpenReview Chair of LoG 2025, Guest Editor of Generative Search and Recommendation of Frontiers in Big Data, Proceedings Chair of CIKM 2025, and Web Chair of KDD 2024.
