Apostolos Papadopoulos

Visiting Professor of Practice

Research Interests

Professor Papadopoulos's research includes significant work at the I.N.R.I.A. Research Center in Paris, focusing on benchmarking spatial and spatiotemporal databases, and at the Greek Telecommunications Organization, where he designed telematics systems for industrial monitoring. His interests span scalable distributed query processing, point-of-interest recommendations, and drug-target interaction predictions. He also investigates network community participation causality and DoS attack detection using unsupervised anomaly detection, showcasing a diverse portfolio in database systems and applied computing.

Alongside his role at MBZUAI, Professor Papadopoulos holds a faculty position in the School of Informatics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he serves as a full Professor, following previous appointments as Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and lecturer. His teaching portfolio includes courses such as file organization, information retrieval, design and analysis of algorithms, and computer networks.

Professor Papadopoulos has also worked as a Research Associate at the School of Informatics, contributing to both teaching and research initiatives. In parallel with his academic roles, he gained industry experience as a Computer Engineer at HellasCom S.A. and a Programmer at COMPUCON S.A., focusing on software development, systems analysis, and implementation. Earlier in his career, he taught C/C++ programming for Macintosh at the Computer Technology Institute (C.T.I.).
