MBZUAI Graduate Research Fellowship Program
Overview
Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is the world’s first research university dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI). MBZUAI is ranked in the top 10 globally for AI* and attracts world-class faculty and researchers in computer vision, machine learning, natural language processing, computer science, robotics, statistics and data science, computational biology, human-computer interaction and beyond.
The MBZUAI Graduate Research Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for students enrolled in an MS degree or pre-doctoral researchers to undertake a short-term research project with MBZUAI faculty to gain research experience in preparation for application to a PhD program.

The MBZUAI Graduate Research Fellowship Program will help candidates prepare for their PhD studies by providing the opportunity to experience exciting and rigorous research at MBZUAI. Fellows work directly alongside faculty and their research group to explore innovative projects, improve research skills and network with AI leaders.
The fellowship covers:
- Return flights
- Accommodation
- Health insurance and visa
- A stipend of AED 8,000 per month
Application Process and Requirements
Application Open Date: Year Round
Selection: Rolling Basis
To be considered, candidates must meet the following:
- Final year master’s student prospective PhD students
- Must be completing or have a degree in STEM with a GPA of 3.5 out 4.0 or equivalent
- Evidence of some research experience, preferably in the form of coauthored papers in top venues in the field
The application requires:
- Transcript and graduation certificate
- CV/Resume (3 pages maximum)
- Statement of research interests (2 pages maximum) – The candidate should discuss the general research direction they would like to pursue.
- Identify two MBZUAI faculty whose research you are interested in.
- Official evidence of English language proficiency, such as an official letter from the University Registrar confirming that English is the medium of instruction at the applicant’s university or a valid certificate of any of the following:
- TOEFL iBT with a minimum total score of 90
- IELTS Academic with a minimum overall score of 6.5
- Recommendation – contact details for one referee
