Natural language processing (NLP) at MBZUAI centers on computational techniques to analyze, understand and generate human language, supporting applications such as chatbots, machine translation, and sentiment analysis.
MBZUAI researchers develop LLMs with emphasis on Arabic and underserved languages, advancing language understanding and developing applications across healthcare, finance, and education.
Our students, supervised by our world-class faculty, get unique hands-on experience by developing and evaluating real-world models for general and industry-specific use cases.
Our University offers Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in NLP with exceptionally advanced courses and outcomes.

Natural language processing (NLP) is a fascinating area that sits at the intersection of computer science, linguistics, and machine learning. It is where we harness the power of language to create intelligent systems that can understand, generate, and interact with human language in meaningful ways.
As we look to the future, our department at MBZUAI will continue to be a driving force in shaping the next generation of NLP technologies. We will generate new knowledge, explore new frontiers, and contribute to solving some of the most pressing challenges in the world today. Whether it’s in the realms of large language models, dialog systems, chatbots, Arabic NLP, machine translation, speech recognition, multimodality (language +speech/images/video), or understanding the subtleties of language, our department will be at the forefront of innovation.
