Computational Biology

Computational biology researchers working at MBZUAI use computational methods to analyze biological data, model complex biological processes, and advance fields like genomics and personalized medicine.

Our research focuses on applying AI to biology, with research spanning genomics, medical imaging, and epidemiology. The department is a part of the School of Digital Public Health.

Our students, supervised by our world-class faculty, get unique hands-on experience by assisting with departmental initiatives such as the Human Phenotype Project, which analyzes health data from more than 13,000 participants to better understand diseases and population health.

The University offers Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in computational biology with exceptionally advanced courses and outcomes.

Chair's Message

The Computational Biology Department at MBZUAI sits at the cutting edge of biology, medicine, and AI. Our faculty lead efforts to model complex biological systems and extract insights from large-scale molecular data. Flagship initiatives like the Human Phenotype Project and analysis of the Emirati Genome Project provide rich, multi-omic datasets that fuel research in systems biology, genetics, biomarker discovery, and AI-driven disease prediction. Through this work, we aim to transform precision medicine and prepare the next generation of scientists to lead in data-driven healthcare innovation.

At MBZUAI, we are dedicated to advancing knowledge, driving technological breakthroughs, and making a meaningful impact on society through language-centric AI solutions. We are also committed to inclusivity, collaboration, and excellence in teaching and research.
